Aplonia Kalumbang grew up on Sumba Island, East Nusa Tenggara, and managed a company in the food sector before moving to diving full-time. She discovered her passion for diving after becoming curious about Nemo, which led her to fall in love with the underwater world. Aplonia came to Gili by accident through a friend’s invitation but was quickly drawn in by the island’s eco-tourism and the diving community, especially thanks to Holly and Justin.
Her favorite dive site is Shark Point, where she enjoys exploring the Glen Nusa wreck at 28 meters and swimming alongside sharks. She dreams of encountering an Oceanic Manta Ray and teaches specialties such as Deep and Nitrox. Known for her warm, caring nature with a hint of troublemaker spirit, Aplonia is also passionate about food—she loves eating, hunting, and cooking healthy meals. In her downtime, she enjoys sipping ice tea on Monday nights and exploring Indonesia.
With a love for marine life, she dreams of seeing a hammerhead shark and Mawardi the dugong in Alor. Her philosophy? “Hakuna Matata,” as long as she’s happy. She emphasizes the importance of breath control in diving, following the technique of 3-second inhales and 5-second exhales for optimal buoyancy.
